Eric Fender, from San Ildefonso Pueblo, is the son of San Ildefonso potter, Martha Apple Leaf Fender and grandson of Carmelita Dunlap. He is known for his experimentation with clays. Besides black on black pottery, he makes black on red and green on black pottery as well as polychrome. He has exhibited at Indian Market since 1988. and at the Eight Northern Pueblos Artist & Craftsman show since 1994. In 1987 Eric was awarded first prize in painting at the New Mexico Congressional Art Competition. In 1988 he was awarded a first prize in pottery, all other, and a first prize in painting & sculpture (ages 13-18) at the Indian Market in Santa Fe. In 1998 he was awarded an Honorable mention in painted jars also at Indian Market.

The black on black pot shown above is 5 1/4 inches in diameter and 5 inches tall. The price is $520.
